While gathering all my goods for holiday baking today… a fond memory of a jingle my Grandfather wrote for a “Carnation Milk Contest” popped into my head…

It’s like shuffleboard on ice….. and it is the cause of my stiff body this morning. Yesterday Tea and I ventured out to the St. Paul Curling Club to engage in 3 hours of rock tossing on some slippery ass ice with some of Tea’s co-workers. The object of curling is much like shuffleboard, except you slide a stone with a handle attached to it down an alley of ice. Your teammates run ahead of your stone as it slides down the ice, sweeping like Mr. Clean trying to scrub the ice in order to allow your stone to travel further. The tricky part is keeping your balance on the ice while sliding your stone. Luckily, neither of us ended up in the hospital with anything broken. Oh….. our team won too!

A Family Weekend

Mama Tea and Papa Tea came this weekend for their first visit to Minneapolis…. or Minneannapolis as they call it. Those Southerners have their own language.

On our list of to do’s with the folks:

-touring the city

-checking out the lakes

-Minnehaha Falls

-Stillwater, MN (such a cute quaint little river town)

-apple picking (DELICIOSO)

-Stella’s Fish Cafe, Galactic Pizza, Loring Pasta Bar, Egg & I, and French Meadow Bakery.

-polar bear sex…. (This is only for those of you who know that joke)

Always a joy to see Mama and Papa Tea. They are headed back to Alabama now where nobody will notice their mispronouncing of Minneannapolis

Why I love Martha

So since becoming a “househusband” I have taken on a fond affection for the “Martha Stewart Show“. I know, I know…. how gay can you be. Ok, so true. I do enjoy learning her cooking tips, crafting, and pointers for the garden.

But what I really enjoy about Martha….. her snarky comments. She has such as tactful way of putting someone down and making them seem inferior to her. I love it.

She won my heart over yesterday when she brought out a fifteen foot hot dog and made the remark, “For those of you who don’t think length matters, I disagree — especially when it comes to weiners.” The comment was followed by her laughing hysterically at the funny she just made.

I love you Martha.

I can smell it today

Today while walking to the grocery store, I got my first whiff of fall this year. Um…. I LOVE IT!

The smell of leaves that have fallen off the trees signals that my favorite time of the year is here. What a great time to be outside exploring nature.

Soon the smells of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, pumpkin pie, and apple pie will start filling the air, letting me know that Kitty and Zilla will be here soon for Turkey day! YAY!!

And we didn’t land in the water

So this weekend while heading off to slumber, I rolled over and asked Tea, “What do you want to do tomorrow?” He replied with, “whatever you want to do.”

“Great” I replied.

Tea: “Uh oh. What do you have planned?”

Me: “Oh just something that involves bikes and boats.”

Tea sighs.

So the next morning we wake up and Tea plays as if he has not heard the conversation from the previous evening. Perhaps he doesn’t, as it was late and we were well on our way to dreamland, but he will soon find out. After a delicious breakfast at a quaint old firehouse, we hop on our bikes and head to the lakes. I have always wanted to go kayaking but never really had the opportunity. Of course, I have done canoeing, rafting, and the sort, but never kayaking. We spent the afternoon tooling from lake to lake, along tree lined shores, admiring the enormous houses that line the water that we could never afford.

Tea found himself enjoying the experience, although it is something he would have never suggested himself. It was so cute to hear him from the back of the kayak saying, “lets see how fast we can go again.” This is something we will definitely do again. I wish the lakes wouldn’t be frozen over when Kitty and Zilla come for Thanksgiving so we could go kayaking with them instead of ice fishing.
